MACKIE visit
Mackie is located in Woodinville Washington, near Seattle. There are 600 people working in the different areas of the company, which manufactures everything by itself. They have a metal mechanical section to make the chassis, another section for painting, dry & silk screen to record all the covers and elaborate all its cards. They have automatic machines for the whole assembly of components. The assembly of big parts as potentiometers, displays, etc. is made manually. Then it goes to the welders. Everything is well checked in each step before advancing to the following process.
They have a process engineering department which is responsible for the efficiency in the production lines; they have a select engineering team which is in charge of improving and developing new products. After finishing each part of a model it's assembled manually, then it goes again through quality control and finally receives a serial number and gets packed.
In another area they have the administrative and corporate offices, they have a very talented and narrow marketing team, which is in charge of the image, manuals, catalogs and web design of the company. They have a recording studio equipped with the digital systems that Mackie manufactures, and it's also used for product demonstration.
The service center is located in another plant, separated from the factory, it occupies an area of 12900 square feet, and assists around 1500 equipments monthly. It has 10 technicians with fully equipped tables, 4 stations of quality control to guarantee the factory parameters once an equipment is repaired, 2 employees who receive and send equipment and parts twice a day by UPS, 2 more for parts management who receive e-mail and telephone orders.
Something very interesting is that they have a technician who receives calls and helps the client or the authorized center service to repair equipment. There is an area for graphic design, that prepares all the service manuals, converts and adapts them to AutoCAD and PDF format by diverse processes.
